We send our love and blessings. In an effort to keep in touch and share our lives with you - our friends and family, we each chose an event that happened this past year to share with you.
Exciting Adventure - Caleb (19)

A lot has changed for me this past year. I graduated from high school in May and now I’m a semester away from graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Thomas Edison State College. But beyond my studies I also moved away from home for the first time. In April I moved 2,000 miles away all the way to Moses Lake, Washington. I took an internship with CollegePlus!, a long distance educational coaching company who helped me work on my degree while I was in high school. My job at CollegePlus! was originally to be the assistant to the COO, but after recognizing my skill set I actually have been put in charge of much of the IT support for the company. It has been very different being away from home especially missing family vacations and my brothers’ football season, but I’ve also grown a lot in the last year in both job related skills as well as maturity. I’m not exactly sure what this next year holds for me but I plan to get a full time job and put the skills I have learned to use whether that job is in Michigan, Washington or somewhere else. It is an exciting adventure but yet scary at the same time not knowing precisely what God has in store for me this next year but I can’t wait to find out.
Maturing & Growing - John
For me the toughest thing I went through this year was when Caleb left home. I knew that day would come, all my children will leave home eventually. When this opportunity first came available, for an internship 2000 miles away from home, it seemed exciting and

adventurous. But when we had to finally decide if this was the right thing for Caleb to do, it was very stressful and saddening. We prayed and lifted Caleb and this opportunity up to God and received peace about it. One blessing is that with our cell phone plan we can talk to Caleb anytime and we do at least a couple of times a week, more if he’s having car problems. It makes me proud as his father to see him maturing, growing and taking on new responsibilities to become the man God wants him to be.
Peace & Hope - Miriam
My mom had dealt with Alzheimer’s disease and a lung condition for a number of years. This spring, within a few weeks, she declined quickly and died on May 18, 2009. It is hard to have her gone. I miss her. It’s painful to watch my dad go through the grief of a spouse of 51 years. Changes make me stop and look at what I am putting my hope in – is it the Lord or is it my relationships and activities that make me comfortable. Grief can be discouraging. But I’m thankful that I have hope beyond this world. Jesus is faithful. He will never leave me. I will spend eternity with him. That brings me peace and hope. My dad and I just completed a project my mom started years ago, “Stories from the life of Betty Lacy”. We have it available at

New Sport - Jacob (18)
This year I started a sport that I have always wanted to try so this May I did. It’s called “Disc

Golf” or “Frisbee Golf,” it’s pretty much just what is says it is, golf, but instead of using clubs you use discs. The object is the same as in regular golf to get the disc into the basket in as few of strokes as possible. What is great about disc golf is that there is a course right by our house, so in the summer I played almost every day. Another great thing is that it is free to play, and there are lots of other courses within an hour of where we live. In July I started playing a league at the local course, which met every Thursday morning and night, I liked it because I got to compete against new people instead of my family and friends. I also learned different techniques and tips from playing with the other players in the l

eague. Disc golf is a really fun sport and I encourage everyone to try it, I hope to be playing it for many years.
Part of the Team - Matthew (15)
This year I played football with our homeschool Christian Football League. I enjoyed being a part of a team. Camaraderie and friendship, the sense of accomplishment of doing what I thought was nearly impossible and getting in better shape by doing hard work made practice a little bit easier. Football has taught me lessons I can use for the rest of my life. I have learned how to push myself and become more diligent. Spending almost every weekday night for three months at football practice, I worked hard coming home with my shirt soaked in sweat. I have learned to persevere, to have inner strength to do my best. Although it is challenging, I learned to enjoy it. Football has been a hard thing for me. Physically the practices were really difficult. Gaining confidence and being in better shape have been some of the good things. Diligence, hard work, and perseverance are lessons I can use for the rest of my life. But the most enjoyable part of playing football for me was being apart of a team.
